THE FEATURED EXHIBITION OF CONTEXT | ART MIAMI
ART BASEL MIAMI // 2022
Launch Intention was presented as the featured exhibition of CONTEXT Art Miami during Art Basel 2022. Positioned at the main entrance to the fair, a 25-foot stainless steel paper airplane sculpture served as the first point of contact for nearly 80k visitors entering the international contemporary art fair. Before encountering the density of booths and exhibitions inside, guests were met with an open, unexpected moment—an invitation to pause, reflect, and engage. The sculpture operated as both landmark and threshold, shifting the tone from observation to participation.
Throughout the week, the installation became a site of continuous interaction. Visitors, collectors, artists, and passersby were drawn in—initially by curiosity, then staying for conversation. Without formal instruction, the work naturally initiated dialogue around intention: what people were seeking, creating, or moving toward. In contrast to the transactional and fast-paced environment inside the fair, the activation created space—physically and mentally—for a more personal exchange. Functioning not just as a sculpture, but a shared experience that redefined a person's arrival into the fair.
Artist Note
I remember watching people slow down before they even realized why.
They would approach the sculpture out of curiosity—but then stay because something shifted.
Inside, everything moves fast—booths, conversations, decisions. Outside, this created a different pace. People started talking about things they weren’t expecting to talk about. Not art, not transactions—just where they were at in their lives, what they were working toward.
It was never announced or explained. It just happened.
That’s when it became clear—this wasn’t about placing a sculpture at the entrance.
It was about creating a moment people could step into before everything else.
CREDITS & THANK YOU'S
Thank you to the community, collaborators, and supporters who made this installation possible. Each contribution—whether through time, resources, or belief—helped transform an idea into something tangible and shared. This sculpture represents more than a single vision; it reflects a collective intention launched together. May it serve as a space to gather, reflect, and imagine what’s possible when ideas are given the opportunity to take flight.
