ART CITY TUCUMCARI NEW MEXICO // 2024
In 2024, Launch Intention became the first large-scale installation at Art City in Tucumcari, New Mexico—a 40-acre, open-air art and hospitality project designed to bring together monumental works, immersive experiences, and overnight stays within a shared landscape. A 25-foot stainless steel paper airplane sculpture was installed on site as the initial anchor, introducing the project’s presence within a vast, undeveloped terrain. Positioned within the natural topography of the high desert, the work operated as both a visual landmark and conceptual starting point—marking the beginning of what the space would become.
As the first installation on the property, the sculpture established an immediate tone for interaction and engagement. Guests arriving to stay on site—through the project’s event programming and glamping experiences—encountered the work not in a traditional exhibition context, but as part of a lived environment. The openness of the landscape allowed for a different kind of relationship to the sculpture: one defined by time, proximity, and personal reflection. Without formal structure, the work invited quiet interaction, reinforcing the idea of intention not as a single moment, but as something carried forward. In this context, the installation functioned as both presence and premise—setting a foundation for future works and experiences to build upon.
Artist Note
The project has always been about setting something into motion, and allowing it to unfold.
Placing the sculpture there wasn’t just about the work itself—it was about what it represented in that moment. A beginning. A marker. A signal of what’s to come.
Over time, I’ve seen how this work naturally becomes a catalyst. It creates a starting point that other things build from—ideas, conversations, projects, communities.
That’s what this was.
Not just an installation, but a way of setting intention for an entire space moving forward.
CREDITS & THANK YOU'S
Thank you to the community, collaborators, and supporters who made this installation possible. Each contribution—whether through time, resources, or belief—helped transform an idea into something tangible and shared. This sculpture represents more than a single vision; it reflects a collective intention launched together. May it serve as a space to gather, reflect, and imagine what’s possible when ideas are given the opportunity to take flight.
